Loving Heart – Strong Mind

History

History is explicitly taught in one or two units per year, with cross-curricular links to build pupils' schema in Geography and Science units at other parts of the year. History is also taught within other foundation subjects where appropriate, especially within reading and  writing units when the driver unit is History based.

Other whole school focuses, such as Black History Month and Remembrance, help to ensure the children have a thorough understanding of the impact of historical events, whilst the History timeline in the library means that children can access and understand the chronology of what they have been taught or what might be of interest to them.

History at Holy Rosary helps the pupils to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of the past in local, national and wider world contexts. Pupils learn how this has shaped our lives using of a wide range of sources and interpretations to create a diverse History curriculum, with a focus on equality. The children are taught to compare periods of history with each other as well as modern day life, and to equip them to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement.
